Week 31

Merry Christmas!  We had a great Christmas at home.  No traveling for us this year.  This week has been pretty good.  I have been more uncomfortable in general.  Adalyn is growing and moving a lot.  We had an OB appointment the day after Christmas.  Baby girl is measuring perfectly and her heartbeat sounds great at 140 beats per minute.  She is a very active little girl!

We start our birthing class in January.  A little scary that we are at that point already.  Time is going very quickly!  I am excited to meet baby girl and be done with glucose checks, but we still have a lot to do!  Our OB appointments are now every 2 weeks.

How far along?: 31 weeks
Total weight gain?  2 pounds this month, 19 total
Baby is the size of a:  pineapple
Interesting facts about baby at this stage:   Baby girl is approximately 3.3 pounds with a total length of 16 inches (according to the book).  This week she can turn her head from side to side and she is beginning to plump up as fat continues to accumulate under the skin.
Maternity clothes?:  All maternity clothes.
Stretch marks?: Still no :)
Sleep:   Sleep has been bad this week.  I have had crazy dreams and a few nightmares again this week.  I also have not been able to sleep longer than a couple of hours at a time.  I can't get comfortable and Adalyn has been very active, even at night.  If I put any pressure on my belly while on my side she gets upset and starts pushing back.  I still have to get up two or three times to pee.
Best moment of this week?:  Hearing her heartbeat.
Miss anything?:  Sleep
Baby Movement/kicks?: A lot of movement!  You can see her shifting from side to side and pushing on my belly.

Food cravings?:  Milk, Mexican food, and macaroni and cheese.  I am actually doing better with not craving sweets.  I guess it really is true that if you don't eat sweets, you don't crave them (I always doubted that one).
Anything making you queasy or sick?: No
Belly button in or out?:  Pretty much flush with my belly.
Happy or moody most of the time?: Happy most of the time.
Looking forward to: New Years, not because we have big plans, just because it is time passing.
Symptoms I have: A LOT of heartburn again this week.  And it is more frequent throughout the day, not just at night!  Some discomfort in my lower back and pelvis.
Next Appointment:  January 10th with OB and the Diabetes clinic.

Week 30!

We have made it through week 30 now.  I hope that these last 9 weeks continue to fly!  We still have a lot to get and a lot to do, but I am already tired of checking my glucose 6 times a day!  I met with the doctor for my gestational diabetes, she said so far (only a week of glucose checks) that things look good, and at this time she is not adding any medications.  There is potential for me to require insulin as I progress in the pregnancy, but I am hoping not.  I have had my fill of needles!  So I am still counting carbs and balancing my meals.  No cereal, little to no sweets ( I can have a small cookie or brownie with a meal), and no sweet tea!  I have already told Brandon that I want a big fat cupcake and a jug of Milo's sweet tea at the hospital after Adalyn comes out :)

Adalyn is very active.  She moves a lot and has started to look like an alien in my tummy.  It is pretty fun to watch my tummy move now.  It freaked Brandon out the first time he saw it, but now we both find it amusing.

Week 29!!

Week 29 was a busy week!  We had the Kentucky baby shower this week!  It was great to spend some time with my friends and family.  We had a lot of fun and Adalyn got a lot of goodies.  I also got to go see The Nutcracker Ballet with my mom.  It is one of my favorite Christmas memories from my childhood.  I can't wait until Adalyn is old enough to enjoy it as well.

I had my 3 hour glucose test this week.  It was not fun at all, but I survived!  The orange drink made me so sick this time.  I spent a majority of my time lounging in the lab's reclining chair for blood draws, because when I sat upright I got faint.  Unfortunately, two of my four results were a little high, so I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes.  Now I get to check my glucose with my own glucometer 6 times a day.  Again, not fun, but I am surviving.  I have an appointment with the diabetes nurse counselor to decide what needs to be done based on my glucose curves, December 19th.  I'm hoping to control it with just diet.  I have been busy counting my carbs and balancing my diet.

How far along?: 29 weeks
Total weight gain?  ?
Baby is the size of an:  acorn squash
Interesting facts about baby at this stage:   Baby girl is approximately 2 1/2 pounds with a total length of 15 1/4 inches (according to the book).  This week baby's energy is surging, thanks to white fat depositing under her skin.  She is starting to get cramped in there!
Maternity clothes?:  All maternity clothes.
Stretch marks?: Still no :)
Sleep:   Continuing to get better at sleeping on my side.  I still have to get up once or twice to pee.
Best moment of this week?:  Spending time with my Aunts, Grandma, and all of my friends at my baby shower.
Miss anything?:  Sweets!  And cereal!  Since I am now counting carbs because of gestational diabetes, I can't have this stuff anymore.
Baby Movement/kicks?: A lot of movement!  She is pushing on me more now, I guess because it is getting tight in there.  I can feel an arm/leg/elbow (something) poking out sometimes, which is weird, but cool.  She has also had a lot of hiccups this week.

Food cravings?:  Milk, sweets, cereal!  Basically the stuff I can't eat.
Anything making you queasy or sick?: No
Belly button in or out?:  Just barely in still.
Happy or moody most of the time?: Happy!
Looking forward to: Christmas!
Symptoms I have: Still some heartburn, but not as bad this week.

Week 28!!

28 weeks.  Baby shower in Alabama.

We are now finished with week 28 and into the third trimester!  Seems like it has gone fast.  I am still feeling great.  I have moments of exhaustion, but haven't been sick or in pain (thank goodness).  We drove to north Alabama this week to visit my vet school roommate and have my Alabama baby shower.  The trip was easy and uneventful.  We had a great visit and a fun shower, even though we were missing a few good friends!  Brandon and I both hated to leave.

Adalyn is very active!  She becomes more active when I read her books, but especially when Brandon talks to her!  I guess she gets tired of listening to me all of the time and likes to hear daddy!  She doesn't like it when I try to have Brandon feel how hard she is kicking me.  It's like she knows when he puts his hand there and she stops moving.  She is rotten already!!

Bad news for the week, my 1 hour glucose test to screen for gestational diabetes came back high.  I don't know how high, but now I have to go back for the 3 hour glucose tolerance test.  Ugh!  For this test I have to fast, then have my blood drawn for an initial check, drink the nasty drink again, and proceed to have blood drawn every hour for 3 hours.  I am not excited about 4 blood draws in one day.  I am also scared of the possibility of having gestational diabetes.

How far along?: 28 weeks

Baby is the size of an:  eggplant
Interesting facts about baby at this stage:   Baby girl is approximately 2 1/4 pounds with a total length of 14 3/4 inches (according to the book).  This week the brain is forming the characteristic grooves and indentations, as well as increasing in size.  Her eyebrows and eyelashes are now present.  Her body fat is increasing under the skin, making her plumper and rounder.
Maternity clothes?:  All maternity clothes.  They are so much more comfortable!
Stretch marks?: Still no!
Sleep:   Continuing to get better at sleeping on my side.  I still have to get up once or twice to pee.
Best moment of this week?:  Getting to see my Alabama (vet school) friends that I do not get to see enough!

Baby Movement/kicks?: A lot of movement!  She is a busy girl.  It is fun to talk to her and feel her move.

Food cravings?:  Milk and sweets!
Anything making you queasy or sick?: No

Week 27!

We are already at the end of week 27!  We are now in the 3rd trimester! It is hard to believe.  I am still feeling great, although Brandon and I have had horrible colds this week.  It is not fun to be sick while pregnant, because you can not take any decongestants or cough medicine!  We have survived and are starting to feel better.  I had my monthly OB appointment this week.  Everything looks great!  Adalyn's heartbeat was in the 150's and she is measuring perfectly.  I had my glucose tolerance test, so hopefully that turns out normal.  I survived another blood draw without passing out!!

We finished the nursery this week and got the furniture set up!  Now we just need a mattress and a glider.  It was fun to do a little nesting.
Molly is already on guard/nanny duty!

How far along?: 27 weeks
Total weight gain?  4 pounds this month, 16.5 total
Baby is the size of a: rutabaga

Stretch marks?: No!
